1. What is a giclée print?
Giclée ( pronounced jhee-clay ) is the term coined for the latest generation of fine art reproduction. Giclees are printed with a microscopic sized dot pattern allowing for virtual continuous tone printing. Using 10 different coloured inks we are able to capture a range of colours previously unheard of, resulting in the absolute highest quality print imaginable.
The giclée prints are printed on Hahnemühle German Etching Paper. This heavyweight paper has a slightly warm base tone and a strong mottled texture giving it a matt look. It creates a print with strong colours and deep blacks that feel rich and high in contrast. This is due to the texture of the paper enabling it to hold more ink and capture the light. The German Etching is chosen for our prints as it is a heavier weight printing paper. With its weight (310gsm) and strong texture this paper gives artwork a handmade crafted feel but with robustness meaning it doesn’t tend to fray as much at the edges.
This option is perfect if you’d like to customize your print with a frame that will compliment your home's decor.
2. What is a hand-embellished print?
Limited amount of Giclée prints are hand embellished with heavy bodied acrylic paint, highlighting certain areas of the print, giving it texture and mimicking the appearance of an original painting. Each hand embellished print is unique from the other. This option is dependant on the Collection Series and is not available for all series making it a high value artwork option but priced lower than original art work. This option is not currently available at Gionita Studio but will be comming soon!
3. What is the difference between a limited edition and an open edition print?
Limited editions suggest only a limited number of prints can be made available for purchase in the edition. For example, in a 100-print limited edition, once all 100 prints have sold, the prints will no longer be available. All prints are numbered (e.g. 1/40) and a tamperproof Certificate of Authenticity is provided. The exclusive nature of a limited edition print effectively raises it’s value. Unlike limited edition prints, open edition prints may be endlessly reproduced. Because there is no limit to the number of prints that can be made, open edition prints are priced lower than limited edition prints.
